The Making of the Greenwich Scarves
The Greenwich Scarf is a richly coloured woven design exploring colour, texture and structure through a layered geometric pattern.
Designed by hand on my hand loom in Rutland, the scarves began as a series of experiments using a British wool warp and remaining merino lambswool and Donegal wool weft from weaving the Greenwich Collection. Using these existing yarns was an important part of the process. I wanted to make use of what I already had rather than create unnecessary waste, while giving the yarns a new life within the collection.
The British wool warp gives the scarf body and structure, while the softer weft yarns bring warmth, texture and subtle variation to the weave. Generously sized to wrap around you, the Greenwich Scarf is designed for chilly days, layered over knitwear or tucked underneath a coat for extra warmth. The wool naturally becomes softer with time and wear, making it a piece to enjoy season after season.
A distinctive detail is the small fringe running along both sides of the scarf, adding a simple finishing detail to the geometric weave.
The Story Behind the Scarf
The British wool warp combines two undyed yarns, each with its own story.
One is made from pure Ryeland wool, generously donated by a small pedigree flock on a farm on the Devon/Somerset border. The flock began with just three ewes, bought at Ludlow market on a visit, and has since grown into a small specialist flock.
The second is a British wool yarn made from a blend of Bluefaced Leicester and Masham fibres. Combining softness and strength, it is a beautiful British yarn with excellent performance. The yarn champions local production, travelling from fleece to finished yarn within a 50-mile radius.
Developing the Design
The process was much like building a painting. I experimented with different combinations of colour, yarn and texture, exploring how subtle variations could sit alongside one another and how different yarn combinations could change the character of the weave.

Through these experiments, the Greenwich Scarf emerged — a new interpretation of the original collection, woven with the same spirit of colour, texture and structure, but designed to be worn.
I hope they become pieces that can be worn, enjoyed and kept — bringing a little colour and woven texture into everyday life.
The Greenwich scarves are now available in Pumpkin, Peacock and Fuchsia, in a limited edition, with a small number made in each colourway.
